Pregnancy & Postpartum Rehabilitation and Recovery

Feel Strong, Supported, and Confident—Before and After Birth

Your body is doing incredible work during pregnancy and birth. But you don’t have to wait until something goes wrong to get support. At Illume Pelvic Health, I offer expert pelvic health physical therapy for women in all stages of pregnancy and postpartum—whether you’re preparing for delivery, healing after birth, or simply want to stay strong and prevent future issues.

Pelvic physical therapy isn’t just for when you're in pain. In fact, research shows that seeing a pelvic PT during pregnancy can shorten labor and reduce the risk of injury during delivery. It’s one of the best ways to set yourself up for a smoother recovery—and protect your pelvic health for the long term.

How I Help During Pregnancy

Even if you don’t have symptoms now, preventative care makes a big difference in how your body handles the changes of pregnancy and childbirth.

Prenatal care includes:

  • Pelvic floor and core assessments

  • Safe exercise guidance for strength, mobility, and endurance

  • Strategies to reduce risk of tearing or pelvic injury during delivery

  • Breathing, pushing, and perineal preparation techniques

  • Education on body mechanics to reduce strain and pain

  • Treatment for pregnancy-related pain (hip, SI joint, pubic symphysis, low back, etc.)

This is not a one-size-fits-all approach—I tailor every session to your needs, goals, and birth plan.

Labor and Delivery Prep

One of the most powerful tools in birth preparation is knowing how to use your body effectively. I teach evidence-based techniques to prepare your pelvic floor, coordinate your breath, and use optimal pushing strategies—tools that can help shorten labor, reduce the risk of tearing, and improve outcomes.

This preparation is especially helpful for:

  • First-time moms

  • Women with a history of difficult or traumatic birth

  • Those planning a vaginal delivery after C-section (VBAC)

  • High-performance athletes or those with strong pelvic floor muscles who may need guidance on relaxation

Postpartum Rehab: Healing with Intention

Birth is transformative—and recovery deserves just as much attention as preparation. Whether you had a vaginal birth or cesarean delivery, your body needs support to heal and restore strength and function.

Postpartum care includes:

  • Pelvic floor healing and scar tissue management

  • Core rehabilitation (including diastasis recti)

  • Bladder and bowel recovery

  • Return-to-exercise guidance

  • Sexual health and comfort

  • Emotional support and trauma-informed care

Even if you feel “fine” now, many symptoms (like leaking, prolapse, or pelvic pain) show up years or decades later—especially during menopause or high-impact activity. Early rehab can prevent those symptoms before they ever become a problem.

It’s Never Too Early—or Too Late—to Start

Whether you’re in your first trimester, six weeks postpartum, or years down the road, it’s never too early or too late to invest in your pelvic health.

You don’t have to wait for pain, pressure, or leakage to get help. Let’s work together to support your body, your goals, and your long-term health.
